Still grinding for Red. Old guard has hit the level cap, now just have to do the same for the rookies. The three I've trained so far all have reasonable bulk and speed, but Steelix is slow and Honchkrow is frail, so training them is going to be interesting.
The plan is to lead with Steelix to get rid of hail with a weather move and take care of Pikachu, then keep it around later to take hits. I only wanted a Honchkrow in case I wanted to rematch the Elite Four later but it seems it'll only be good here as a revenge killer, considering its frailty and Brave nature. Heracross can beat Venusaur, Lapras and Snorlax and both Politoed and Golem can handle Charizard, but my only plan against Blastoise is to tank with Politoed. If I train a sixth I'll probably go with Victreebel and put Sunny Day on Steelix for it, but otherwise I'm taking death fodder.
