He always has to call himself your rival, or constantly brings up his brother, etc.
Hau is your rival, but he doesn't state it literally every time you talk to him.
Plus he has some of his own insecurities over being compared to Hala, but never really just tells you that outright. It's more up to you to see it.
I just generally prefer the subtlety Hau has over Hop's constant beating over the head.
