Venusaur is a perfect balance between being cool and friendly, it can be a towering badass brute or a gentle fatherly frog. It's a guardian of nature who controls the very land and can drown your body with dangerous pollens or crush you underneath it's weight just as easily as it can command the plants around it to beat you to death or strangle you with it's vines. With his foilage and massive tree-like flower he looks like an entire ecosystem came to life. His eyes can be gentle, but they can also be possessed of a furious rage. His flower is like the crowning piece, a jewel in the center of a dense, lush jungle that serves as a focal point and has good color contrast with the monster itself. The flower is also very powerful, practically turning Venusaur into a mobile laser cannon, and contrary to popular belief, is quite pleasant to be around according to the dex entries.
>He's fat and wartyHe's a toad, it's to be expected. And it doesn't detract from him at all; if anything the great bulk helps to sell his design as a living jungle.
>He's slow though!Venusaur is actually significantly faster than his appearance would suggest; as he's got a base speed of 80 (faster than Blastoise, actually) and his speed is outright doubled in sunlight. The games also show this accurately as when he walks, he has a powerful lumbering gait that showcases his bulk; but when he runs he's capable of hopping quite a bit faster than you'd think due to his leg muscles being so strong.
He's also quite different from his pre-evolutions as his face and build is much more muscular and wide compared to Bulbasaur or Ivysaur, and the progression of the bud going into full-bloom in the final stage is an excellent theme for the starter line to tie them all together. Meanwhile, Charizard spontaneously gains wings out of nowhere and Blastoise loses the seaweed tail and fluffy ears for "gun".
He's just rad, man.
