That, the soul-stealing void hole, and it's completely unmoving animations give a great creepy vibe.
But there is charm to pokemon being cutesy or anthro too, and even 8th gen has it's share of creeps (Galar Corsola line is a result of a mass genocide of Corsola) and you can't tell me the newest fossils aren't monsters
Definitely started getting a bit less monsteresque around gen 3 or 4 though honestly
