I think they're really uncomfortable with how Gamefreak would never deliver new Pokemon games around the time their new system hit the market. GF refusing to heed the roll call for Switch must have made it even worse.

Nintento certainly would appreciate a good excuse to get a stronger grip on what GF's doing. Forcing them to cooperate with one of Nintendo's studios will be easier now than ever before.

It's just that Pokemon had two decades to accumulate additional gimmicks within the battle system. Gen I and II was really simple and uninspired.

Merging pokemon with MH and making your main goal "kill a pokemon, turn them into things" just turns the series into an extremely dark one just like that, I can see a lot of fans getting pissed at the idea of actually killing your favorite pokemon too.
