In Korai/Miraidon's case, they literally don't exist in anything, since Occulture doesn't talk about them.
I wouldn't be surprised if Occulture talked about Wakes/Leaves and that's why the design is so different, since it's based off the professor's idea of what they read in the magazine rather than what was found in the book, since we know the professor reads Occulture.
