I think Kanto is actually really fucking intricate for a 1st try. It could have easily been much more barren and simple.
I mean, there are islands, forests, shores, caves, mountains, underground paths and in-land water routes. Not to mention world-enriching stuff like a power plant, a department store, casino, museum, a ship, safari zone, and areas like the Pokémon Mansion and the tower in lavender.
On a 1996 Game Boy game? Damn. This makes the newer games on much better hardware with a much higher budget look even more sad.
