>>36859699Every pokemon type has a Field Ability associated with it.
>Water types learn Surf (crossing water)>Flying types learn Fly (for flight to other places)>Steel types learn Cut (cutting down objects)>Ice types learn Freeze (turning water to ice)>Fire types learn Ignite (light a torch/candle)>Ground types learn Dig (make a hole in ground)>Electric types learn Electrify (start a motor/lightbulb/appliance)>Fighting types learn Strength (move an object)>Psychic types learn Teleport (pseudo Escape Rope)>Grass types learn Growth (grow vines to access an area)>Poison types learn Acid (burn through metal)Can't come up with anything for the others off the top of my head, but you could have one for each type. Dual type pokemon can learn both. You meet Field Ability Teachers throughout the region that unlock these Abilities one by one over time.
Imagine all the backtracking and exploration you could do everywhere in a region as you unlock each one? Going back to an earlier forest area to Growth tree vines to reach new areas? Helping some old dude at the port jump start his motorboat with Electrify so he can bring you to a secret island? Melting a rusty door in a junkyard with Acid to discover a hidden factory room? Using Ignite to light a circle of candles in the Graveyard to summon a Ghost legendary?
It'd be cool.
