I think meeting Ash did Goh such a world of good that he didn't feel the need to put up walls anymore when attending school. Koharu was a good friend to him before Ash, but she didn't really understand his Pokemon obsession. Ash, however, did, and by opening up to Ash, the rest of the world opened up to Goh too, and he started seeing things, and people, from a less confused and pessimistic view. He felt better about himself, too, so that made it easier for him to be around others, and just as importantly, he wanted to be around others. Koharu sees how good Ash has been for Goh, and it's made her very happy to see Goh not only open to making friends, but eager to, as well.
