In addition, in HGSS and some other art (notably the Blue art, the first we got in the west), it's implied that it's supposed to be quadrupedal, which just raises more questions. Even then, modern Meowth's head-to-body ratio is a little more balanced than Scorbunny's tiny body. Just picking some nits here.
