I defended Pokemon up through 2012 because the games were steadily improving, but from 2013 onwards, I just could not continue doing so. I broadened my horizons and played more games, and realized that even while Gens 4 and 5 are the peak of the series, other JRPG companies had long since eclipsed Pokemon.
We should be looking back at Black 2/White 2 as being shitty games from the past held back by the system they were on, not as the magnum opus of a company that's been around for a quarter of a goddamned century.
