Alright lads. Just beat Radical Red again for the second time this week. Tried out minimal grinding mode and I much prefer it. It's a mode that gives all pokemon perfect IVs and removes EVs. The mid game in Radical Red is always an absolute chore because there's the Team Rocket sections, then I always do the EV training shortly after. This time I got to just breeze through and focus on just the fun stuff. Bit less challenging and strategic without EVs, but much more enjoyable. Might try min grinding mode with hardcore mode next time.
For this run I just limited myself to catching the first encounter for each area. I didn't realise Turtonator was so ridiculously good in this game. By far the MVP. Probably the best pokemon I've ever used in a run. It got the Shielddog's ability, so +1 def when entering. Iron Defense, Body Press, Shell trap, and Draco Meteor. The Floette was Eternal Flower Floette. Just happened to have a Florges and ran into a trainer offering to trade. 2nd MVP behind Turtonator. Then Mega Scizor. Blastoise was mega for most of the 2nd half of the game, but I decided to just turn him into a rapid spinner that could shell smash. I beat Sabrina on the first try which is usually one of the toughest fights in the game. Also beat Lance and the Champion on the first try.
