It's not really a problem that it's heavy on the reader as much as its a problem that it won't read as naturally as it could. Keep explanations brief and think about how willing characters would be to discuss things. Not everyone is naturally curious so some characters would probably get fed up with having a ton of info dumped on them by another character.
My suggestion is to just try doing what you're going to do first and see how it reads. If it feels too heavy try simplifying and shortening explanations and don't stray away from what's important. If a concept is related to something that needs to be explained but isn't necessary to understand immediately then prune it and save it for later when it is relevant.
