A lot of entries in the Pokedex mention Pokemon using their abilities to protect themselves from predators, even if Gen 7 became more explicit about it, that doesn't suddenly mean something like Caterpie isn't commonly preyed upon or that bird Pokemon were actually eating non descrpit irl bugs this entire time.
