>>31995361Well to try to explain myself as best I can, let me make a comparison with the legendary group that I like the most, which is the beast trio.
I love them because of the (perceived) seamless the blend of ferocity and regality of their designs. Much like real large felines, I can never really tell if they're frightening or graceful because it could go either way.
For instance, look at Entei in this picture. The posture is important - what it says to me is that Entei carries itself with pride and dignity, and yet its other features such as the claws, sheer size or the sounds of its roars make it very intimidating. The three also have a really cool design element in their manes, which resemble either a thundercloud, volcanic smoke or aurora borealis.
I see none of this in the Tapu. Because of their more streamlined, almost inorganic appearance, they don't inspire any response in me. For example, look at Tapu Lele and its arms. They are featureless black lines and the hands are fingerless stubs. They remind me of toys more than anything else.
For Koko in particular I also feel like the shell feature seems very shoehorned in. It's not as seamless as, say, the way Enteis mane resembles volcanic smoke as it flows. Is Koko doomed to eternal tunnel vision?
