Malva being a part of their group was awesome but almost nothing is done with it.See pic related. I feel like this game's story was at war with itself. It wants to talk about muh human condition, but also wants to play it a bit safe with comedy bad guys and a seemingly low stakes romp. There are multiple references of references to poverty and class struggle in Kalos, but it's also sort of at odds with the general vibe of the main adventure and its quirky fun sidekicks.
If there's anything I think BW did well, it's staying tonally consistent.
