Back in XY I was obsessed with having a team of a literal rainbow spectrum of Pokemon. The ideal mix was a primarily red, orange, yellow, green, blue or purple Pokemon, although white or brown could substitute either red or orange in a pinch. They also had to all be of different types and it'd be really great if each was inspired by a radically different type of life (i.e. only one mammal, bird, reptile, invertebrate, objection, bipedal humanoid, etc.), as well as a balance between genders (although one non-gender Pokemon was okay).
I pretty much always defaulted to a team of Greninja, Gardevoir, Scrafty, Venipede, Flygon, and Gourgeist, although Charizard, Aegislash, Clawitzer, and Emolga would sometimes be chosen for various slots instead.
