There was actually a level of creativity there, and it was starting at Gen 4 that the stagnation took hold. Megas could have been interesting but the entire concept was incredibly half-assed. Pokemon games weren't really being criticised for just being shameless rehashes until around D/P's time. I'll never claim that Gen 7 was amazing, but the attempts to genuinely shake up the formula were welcome. I understand that the fanbase is full of actual autists who enjoy playing the same thing over and over again with a slightly different coat of paint, so you'll try and argue otherwise, but I'm right.
