>>47149835After playing the gen 1 games a few times I realized BW failed at what it was trying to do with its brand new pokedex due to the map design.
In the Kanto games there's a lot more freedom in how you can tackle the story and this leads to huge team diversity. You can rush to Fushia City and get yourself some cool pokemon like tauros and dratini, and you don't even have to fight Erika or Sabrina to do so. Plus Surf is there so you can go to Cinnabar right after. A lot of pokemon you find later on can actually be used much earlier, the majority of the pokedex can be used effectively.
BW however does not do this with its new pokedex. The story is railroaded, there is no breaking the sequence. Pokemon from later areas can't be used earlier without trading. Want that Mienfoo? Reach the city with the 7th gym, there's nothing you can do about it. So many Unova pokemon evolve so late as well, it's horrible. You can have Dratini after 3 badges and evolve it fully at 55. The Unova counterpart Deino is all the way at Victory Road only and evolves fully at level 64, 100% unusable for a playthrough. Let's not even get into the pokemon available at the start of RBY vs BW.
At least the climax of BW's story is pretty cool.
