The only reason why BW2 sold more than Platinum and Emerald was because they were sequel games rather than third versions. Third versions have never sold that well, which is probably why GF stopped making them. You can claim that USUM was riding the high of Pokemon Go, but actually Go came out the summer before SM did. If anything, SM was riding the high from Go, and USUM's sales were in response to the positive reception of SM.
