If you want to add something that makes him look more like a samurai and yet not making him too bland or overdesigned, why not removing the cape and adding a simple basilect shell breastplate instead (pic related. no pauldrons though)? It would make the samurai theme instantly recognizeable and make him look more badass and battle-ready, without the need for superfluous acessories.
And I'm down for eyepatchless as well.
