To me, vaporeon is a calm, well trained, elegant, loyal, dog-like-in-nature companion, since at least to me that was what it's early appearances painted it as. However, over the years it's become more cutesy and kitten-like, with a big :3 face and a lot more energy than I'd ever envisioned (in the anime anyway). The shilling because of eevee's popularity demanded it be more cute, and I appreciate cute art of my catdog fish, but it means that they will never again display it in the same light that I see it as.
Sorry for the autism rant, I know it's not a problem unique to vaporeon either.
