The anime doesn't have anything to convey to start with, is the problem- not even "style and charm" the way something like Dragon Ball does. The Pokemon dub team is not the best in any regard, but even if their actors sang and their scripts found that fine line in adaptation, it would be much ado about nothing. Of course, you can't say this justifies what 4Kids did because 4Kids made plenty of bad calls even in their own sphere. It just means the show is a piddling thing regardless.

We do know the series was produced with a much greater awareness of its being a global show later in life so that's a reason from the horse's mouth. Standards in Japan and the series first writers (as opposed to later ones) doubtless have hands in it too.

To be fair, its about 3 percent of population consciously/subconsciously expecting the 2nd amendment to be repealed in a bogeyman future doing a significant amount of the legwork.
