I was really tired of Gen 1 mechanics and all, so I basically focused on training up Charmander. (I was inspired by the Red and Blue SpeedRuns using only a Nidoking or Blastoise to beat the game). It was pretty easy and not too difficult to do since there are not many rock or ground types with powerful enough moves to take it out early game. I tried to train up a few mons, like Snorlax with sadly died in training.
Then I got Lapras in Silph Co. by going there first. By then, I had beaten every trainer with Char and it was at level 60, nothing came close to knocking it out. I trained Lapras at the Digletts cave until level 30 (from level 15) and then used it to wipe the rest of Team Rocker in Silph and the rest of the gyms. At the end of Victory Road, Charizard and Lapras were high 60's and I used the rest of the Rare Candies to boost them to level 70 which was easy enough to get past the E4, no problems.
It was my most simple run, with no team building. But it was still pretty fun to see these two wipe everything in their path.
