Come to think about it, though, there were never any Pokémon items in the fortune cookies in New Leaf. If I had to guess, I imagine it might be something to do with TPC and Gamefreak owning more of the franchise than Nintendo? I don't know if that was the reason, but at a guess, that's my thought.
I was never too fussed about the Nintendo items (none of them ever fit in with the aesthetic my house had going on) but having the options for those that DID want them would be nice.
