The thing was the signs were always there, if you wanted to see them. For example the way that they 'corrected' the starter evol types to include water/fighting after it was hevilly implied on the xy website and it fitted in with the obvious "Characters from Monkey/Journey to the West" theme that one starter has fit for the past few gens thing. Also the stuff that was posted about what the new mewtwo formes looked like was disproved even before they posted it because we already knew what one of the new formes looked like and it didn't fit any of their descriptions. The whole "I'm a massive pokemon fan and by coincidence my room mate is a playtester for XY and is telling me everything about it!" story was incredibly far fetched too.
