Compare it to Yungoos and Gumshoos, who rely mostly on the high metabolism of most rodents and a detective theme. The most they correlate to their original animal is being introduced as an invasive species, while disregarding the speed an poison resistance that the mongoose is known for. Zangoose isn't super fast, but it's workable and it's portrayed that way. How good it is in battle hits that point where I think it's underrated without just being total shit, and that makes it more appealing. Too bad the fans of it are god awful for the most part.
Seviper's cool too, but it's not good in battle as an offensive pokemon of a defensive type with stats that leave it at an unhappy medium and force it to use Sucker Punch. That just leaves its design, which is cool, but I have a couple problems with. The biggest one is the knife tail, which seems as random as Blastoise's cannons. I get the poison knife thing they were going for, but you think they would've saved that for a pokemon with arms/legs to use a knife like Gallade's elbows. To me, it looks like they added it because to prevent it from looking too bland without anything to compare to Arbok's hood, Dragonair's pearls/wings, and Dunsparce's drill/wings. The yellow hexagon parts also don't seem to do anything besides add a pattern to resemble the hapu, even though they stick out in places like a shell or something. Shame it's so slow considering how fast vipers strike, but I appreciate it for what it is. Its fanbase seems hit or miss with a lot of misses, though.
