There's nothing inherently "fire-like" about cats either, yet Litten works as a Fire type. Its fur secretes oil that lets it spit fiery hairballs, which makes sense for both a Fire type and a cat. They haven't given us any relevant details about Sprigatito yet, but the design makes me think they're going in the Rockruff direction. Litten's design doesn't scream "I'm [type] please believe me" like that, and if you still want to hold the non-obvious Fire connection against it, it at least stands out from other starters due to the bored expression and red/orange not being its dominant color.
