I'd still use it though, and in the context of the question I'd most likely use it for foreshadowing purposes or just to be a massive faggot and make inferences about what a character is doing/where they are going.
For an example, lets say some cunt is eventually going to explore a distant world. I'd have him dream of it. Make the dream very surreal, very floaty and vast. He would see the world, almost fly over it. Then awake suddenly, before he sees too much.
