>>51155148I feel you. I think a subtlety that bears mention is that the color-coding of Dark has changed somewhat over time. When the Dark type debuted, the TCG colored Darkness Energy black and teal. FRLG also used a teal-tinted textbox to denote the Dark type. Then DP started using pure black and invented Dark Pulse, which used purple for dark energy. Then things really started to shift in BW and XY, where the color associations of Dark migrated fully to black and red. A lot of Dark's posterchildren in the DS-3DS era were colored black and red: Honchkrow, Darkrai, Zoroark, Bisharp, and most damningly Yveltal.
Like, compare Max Darkness to early Dark Pulse. Then compare Dark Pulse to TCG Darkness Energy. There has been a steady transition from "this is the type of nocturnal killers" to "this is the type of checkerboard colors and Ganon goo." I'm really not a fan of how much the Dark type started leaning into RED VIBES OF EVUL with the leap to 3D.
