>>58520577>>58520610PLA's setting is roughly based on the colonization of Hokkaido (Japan's northernmost main island, which is Sinnoh) by the Japanese, which began after the unification of Japan by the Tokugawa Shogunate in the 1600s but was most actively carried out and completed after the Meiji Restoration in 1870. The natives of Sinnoh (Hisui) are an analogue to the natives of Hokkaido (which was called Ezo then), the Ainu people, less advanced than the Japanese who had extensive Western contact and underwent rapid westernization following the Meiji Restoration. PLA's setting isn't as archaic as it seems at a glance, Jubilife Village has modern brickwork, some kind of industrial furnace and most notably an early camera (owned by a guy named "Dagero," referring to the daguerreotype technique associated with the mid-1800s).
