The U.S. is the only place in the world where the implication of hir/hem being a non-binary individual is even remotely acceptable, so they decided to play it safe by implying (not outright confirming) just that.
In every other country Blanche is a woman to avoid PR disaster.
Perhaps what GF is testing the waters with Go's character to see if kids, and by extension their parents, are open to the idea of a non-binary individual after xhe has gained enough popularity, something Blanche failed to accomplish.
