In the JP only RG Pokédex book, it was said their habitat was unknown, but listed as Grassland due to their behavior. The same book also described Hitmonchan as "a Pokémon inhabited by the spirit of a pro boxer" and Hitmonlee "also known as the demon of kickboxing." Make of that as you will.
