Also, I get the games are made in Japan, but a good portion of people that pokemon are not from eastern asia. Western fantasy or the mythology of other parts of the globe are much more accustom to bizarre animals, plants, and mythical animals as oppose to sentient forms of inanimate objects. There are exceptions of course such as tales of swords or rings with souls and personas locked within; however, most of us are much more comfortable with a dragon than we are with a chair with eyes.
I'm not going to say "Oh, this is absurd, pre-order cancelled!" like some of the mouth breathers here. I dealt with it the past 5 gens and I will deal with it now. Hell, some of the inanimate pokemon are actually kinda cool such as Aegislash, Golurk, Claydol, or Bronzong. (That whole western thing... weapons and things that look ancient or statuesque are ok with me.)
