Its the standards and precident being set by previous games and GF chucking that shit out a window because fuck you, you'll buy it anyway. You may not know it, but there actually was quality and improvements to more than just breeding pokemon and battle gimmicks. There was a good variety in what you could do in game that peaked in the DS era. Current Game Freak's arrogance and the zealotry of mindless consumers claiming to be fans did so much to hurt the series. Not that the damage matters because we have retards that will buy an endless amount of copies because "muh poor indie company".
