My first shiny was during my grinding for the elite four in victory road last year. It was a Boldore. I did eventually trade it for a bulbasaur. Totally regrettable in retrospect. But that bulbasaur started my breeding and trading for other pokemon. Now I have all the starters and others from previous gens. I was all about filling up my pokedex.
I did eventually get payback when I got a shiny Braviary for trading a charmander
