Ultimately, a strong evidence against your argument is the PWT. If Gen 5-7 is modern, then how come the Hoenn gym leader designs from Gen 5 and 6 are different? And who's the guy at the end because he never appeared in ORAS?
Trying to exclude Gen 5 but include Gen 4 in retro-lite is not doing you any good, especially since Gen 5 borrows a lot of Gen 4's sprite work and sound design. Either both are modern or both retro-lite.
