All of the trashmons that received cool megas that made them viable and even had teams based around them went straight back to being trash as soon as megas were removed and the fact that all megas compete with each other for a slot on your team ruins the whole gimmick because they gave psuedos megas aswell and when you mega evolve them they shoot up to beyond legendary stats, mega salamence was so strong it eventually became preferred over mega rayquaza in VGC
New evolutions, moves and abilities do way more for a pokemon. Two of my favorite trashmons Primeape and Girafarig received evolutions in SV and look how good they turned out, peliper and torkoals new abilities cause all other aspects of those pokemon to shine
So no I don't want my bro cacturne to get a mega so it can be a sub optimal choice when it has access to it and terrible when it doesn't.
