i read the rules for magic the gathering a few days ago and thinking back to pokemon's tcg, the energy mechanics seem really limited
just like in pokemon, you can play only one land card per turn in mtg but that can end up being used for multiple purposes later in the game, since the land cards are actually separate from monsters and can be used without much commitment thereto
but in pokemon not only can you only play one resource card per turn, that card ends up stuck to the mon for the rest of the game if it doesn't end up discarded, and considering that you've got both active and benched mon that can be played as well as another energy cost for having one retreat, energy cards seem to be something you'll never have enough of when you need em
