Pokemon WAS simple by since XY we had Mega evolution parralel universes and sun and moon gave us interdimensional travel and ultra beasts as well as Z moves
The core series is getting bogged down in final fantasy tier convoluted nonsense that complicates the Pokemon series prompting a 2nd series to catch falling out Pokemon fans and integration with go means it can tap into 800 million players potentially. Interdimensional fuckery has no place in Pokemon and serves to hurt it.
