A voraphile can self-insert as the "prey" (the one who's eaten), the "predator" (the one who's eating) or an observer. From the above wall of text you would be able to figure which psychological features define each role. These roles are so varied that some voraphiles can even find disgusting some material that arouse others.
I remember when I was a child I just felt the need to be protected by staying in closed areas. To be apart from the world. And it kinda turned into a fetish when I grew up. It's really autistic and messed up, but it's a part of my personality anyways.
