Sure, we disliked his stupidity and how stubborn he was sometimes, but that is what made him a character. He was genuinely 10 back then. He also had some attitude and it would often take a few tough lessons for him to get the message
I don't think anybody that liked/watched the original series could stand the character as he is now. the anime is basically zombie pokemon at this point
