Just gonna mention that none of the "pokemon killer" that copy-pasted the gameplay recipe with only token twists had any actual success.
Meanwhile the first studio to slap pokémons on the sloppiest, most generic and overdone non-GF-style gameplay sold several millions units.
The bar is terribly low.
You can pretty much re-use *any* gameplay from an at least vaguely successful game and it would be an improvement, as long as you don't fuck up the Pokémons themselves.
