At least with 4chan you know whether a board is full of perversion/mature content or not because it will be a red board. On reddit, the mature subreddits hardly ever use the 18+ warning. And by hardly ever, like almost never ever. The most vile of the things to be found there can be easily viewed by a toddler or grandparent by a simple misclick or by a sub having terrible/no rules.
