When someone is completely immersed in Pokemon, they're going to care a lot more about this or that slightly esoteric (as esoteric as a casual RPG like Pokemon can get) issue of gameplay and forget about the big picture. RGBY seem like shitty simplistic games compared to something like USUM or Platinum.
They can't see either the historical value or recognize that the base mechanics that are shared between all of those games are still incredibly refined in Gen I despite claims and fears of glitchiness.'
Also Gen I still has the best scenario design of any Pokemon game I think. It manages to neither be too linear or too easy with a story that makes sense with the general pace of the game.
