>>52225536Yeah most open world games get at least 5 years of dev time, most mmos take nearly a decade.
There’s really no excuse why they have to stick to the cycle they’re running on.
B4 muh merch, cards, and anime; I don’t see why they can’t use the spin-offs as inspiration/resources. Legends Arceus brought us new forms with their own plushies, anime episodes, and TCG cards.
Additionally they could just have a separate team create more DLC to fluff out the previous gen or even just reuse the same engine to create a similar style game.
So for example what if gamefreak had done Paldea in the same engine and style as SWSH. Yeah it wouldn’t have been as innovative but it would’ve been enough to keep their schedule on track. And since it wouldn’t have been hard to push out they could have split their team in half while one works on the previous engine title while the other gets a head start on the new engine game with the open world, thus giving the team a flexible five year minimum to work on the game; while still getting a new generation of Pokémon out to feed the rest of the franchise.
Ultimately, I guess I’m just making the point that gamefreak bit off more than they could chew and should’ve started developing SV much earlier. If they want to do open world Pokemon it’s going to need more time in the oven and there’s no reason why they can’t manage their developers and resources better to achieve it.
