Speaking of which, I thought Claydol was Rock/Ghost at first glance. At the time we had no precedence to establish that clay Pokemon = Ground-type. The first 2 gens made me think Rock = "made of earth" and Ground = "manipulates the earth." Plus the same gen introduced a Ghost-type possessed doll so I'd say I was justified in my error.
Similarly, my first impression of Golurk was either Rock or Steel combined with either Fighting or Psychic. Can't really tell what it's made of at first and by that point ancient constructs were more associated with Psychic (Claydol/Bronzong).
