It was cool how in the old games the designs informed you about the region and the characters, like Ruby wearing biking gear because of the game's heavier focus on it for traversal, Lucas and Dawn having winter clothes due to Sinnoh's colder climates (yeah I know this is only for Platinum) and Nate wearing a wetsuit underneath his regular outfit because he's a surfer dude from Jersey.
None of the protagonists since Sun and Moon convey anything about their characters. I guess Sun does kinda look like a typical tourist? That's about it.
