Obviously nothing will come close to replicating the childhood wonder of Pokemon games. Some things to consider about this list:
I was honestly one of those that dropped Pokemon in Gen III because i didn't have a GBA and was already losing interest in the franchise. 4 years later i was gifted a DS Lite with Brain Age (because that was hip back then), so i decided i would buy Platinum and ended up liking it a lot. It got me back into the series. I loved most of the Gen V Dex, but the fatigue started to hit me because it overall didn't improve much on Gen IV (besides the speed), i felt like it cut most of the interesting side-content like the underground and Poketch, and was a genuine chore to finish.Around this time i decided it'd be better to just emulate Emerald and i liked it more than Gen V. Gen VI was pleasant to me because i was waiting for 3D Pokemon my whole life and it delivered. Even with its flaws, it reinvigorated my interest. Gen VII was similar to Gen V in that it didn't feel as big of a step up, but it was certainly much more entertaining to me.
As of now i've realized that i appreciate the first forays into new hardware, but after that i begin to get fatigued by the apparent repetitiveness. Here's to hoping the Switch version is a breath of fresh air for the series instead of your typical lazy, least-effort cash-grab.
