>>35072301Yeah, it's straightforward but the pure amount of stuff in these games is absolutely staggering. Take the aforementioned MegaTen series for example. I always hear that SMT is "the hardcore JRPG". Well, it's a very similar game. You have a number of demons you can fuse and capture in battle, all of them have certain weaknesses and resistances (for example, Jack Frost is weak to fire attacks and resists ice attacks) and you use said demons in battle (all of them have their own spells, which are separated by type). SMT has a total of 105 spells and 426 fusable demons. That's a lot, but most of those spells all fall under large categories and are very easy to learn due to their naming (agi is fire, bufu is ice, agilao is stronger fire, bufula is stronger ice etc.) and you can have a horde of demons with a metric fuckton of various skills (there are no restrictions to what each of them can learn).
Pokemon has 728 spells and 802 mons, not including any mega evolutions, and there are 18 types of attacks compared to SMTs 8. That's WAY more things to remember. And in these games, the difficulty is always in planning your moves and knowing what you need to use.
